Examine common factors that affect student success in this interactive virtual workshop. Sharing the framework and some of the lessons learned from HLC’s Student Success Academy, facilitators will lead a series of activities to help you identify your institution’s current realities and discover areas of opportunity for improving student success within your sphere of influence. 

In this workshop, you will:  

  • Learn strategies for using data to understand your students 
  • Discuss alignment of student success initiatives with your institution’s priorities, student populations and definitions of success 
  • Consider potential institutional barriers to student success  
  • Develop strategies for engaging key stakeholders in student success efforts

Cancellations & Refunds

Replacements
If a registrant is no longer available, the institution should try to find a replacement. Registration is transferable with email notice to [email protected].

Cancellations
You can cancel your registration online using the confirmation number you received in your registration confirmation email. If you’re unable to cancel your registration online, please email [email protected].

Refunds resulting from cancellations will be based on the following dates:

  • Cancellations requested on or before May 26, 2025 will be eligible for a full refund, less a $25 processing fee per person. 
  • Cancellations requested between May 27 and June 9, 2025, will be eligible for a 50% refund, less a $25 processing fee per person. 
  • No-shows or cancellations requested on or after June 10, 2025 are not eligible for a refund. 

Meet the Workshop Facilitators

This virtual workshop series is led by HLC Senior Scholars who work with institutions in HLC’s Student Success Academy.

HLC Academies Senior Scholar Janice Denton

Janice Denton

Senior Scholar and Professor Emerita, University of Cincinnati

Janice Denton is Professor Emerita in the Chemistry Department at the University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College where she taught from 1990 – 2023. During that time, she chaired the college assessment committee, directed the university’s General Education program, and served as department head. She is a member of her university’s Academy of Fellows for Teaching and Learning and was awarded the Blue Ash College Distinguished Teaching Award in 2001. She served as a mentor in HLC’s Assessment Academy from its inception in 2005, became a mentor in the Persistence and Completion Academy when it started in 2013, assumed the role of Scholar for both Academies in 2016, and became a Senior Scholar for the Assessment, Persistence and Completion, and Student Success Academies in 2018.

Susan Hatfield

Senior Scholar and Professor Emerita, Winona State University

Susan Hatfield is Professor Emerita in the Communication Studies Department at Winona State University (WSU), where she taught from 1981 to 2015. During that time, she developed and directed WSU’s assessment program, served as a department chairperson, and coordinated the First Year Student Experience. She has previously served on the Board of Visitors for the Marine Corps University and the Board of Directors of the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology. Susan is currently a Trustee with the Palmer College of Chiropractic.

This virtual workshop will be hosted live on Zoom. Attendees, or their respective institutions, are responsible for installing and configuring any software or hardware necessary to participate. Follow these steps  while checking device compatibility:

  • Check the Zoom System Requirements to confirm each team member’s device can support the platform. 
  • Run an Internet Speed Test on the device(s) that will be connecting to the online meeting. Compare results to the Zoom system requirements to ensure the internet speed matches the recommended bandwidth for meeting attendees.
  • Visit the Zoom Download Center to find out whether the latest version is installed or check for updates on your Zoom application.
  • For the best  experience, it is recommended that built-in computer cameras or webcams are turned on and audio is connected directly through the device or with headphones.

Additional Zoom guidelines and event-specific instructions will be sent out to registered attendees closer to the event date.

Is there any pre-work to complete prior to the workshop?
No pre-work is required.

Will the sessions be recorded?
Yes, each session will be recorded and available for a limited time. Once the recordings are uploaded, a link will be sent to the registered attendees.

When will we receive the Zoom login information?
