As I write the last Leaflet article for this calendar year, I want to begin by wishing each of you a happy holiday season. At HLC, we are well aware of the current environment in higher education and the sense of uncertainty about what may come next. That is always the case regardless of who is elected.
In our fall survey of members, the number one priority respondents requested for HLC’s “thought leadership” was advocacy and representing your interests at the federal level. We certainly will do that. We are in a watch and wait mode, recognizing we worked well with the last Trump administration and stand ready to interact constructively with any new leadership.
There is so much good within higher education, and yet we all know there are areas we can improve. Our commitment is to move forward together with our members. The Higher Learning Commission is also committed to its ongoing continuous improvement and the importance of being adaptive in the overall ecosystem we serve. We are very proud of our ongoing commitment to rigor, innovation, leading with agility, and respecting the wide range of students in many states. I recently spent time with a group of potential new members, and it was invigorating.
Do feel free to reach out to me any time you would like to discuss shifts in the landscape. I will be delighted to speak with you and brainstorm ways HLC can support your missions, goals and objectives. The greatest path to a strong society is an educated populace; know your journey may be occasionally challenging, although your commitment is a priceless gift. Thank you.
